Welcome to Nelson Mandela Bay, Port Elizabeth!

A sparkling ocean, breathtaking African setting, and a sense of freedom encircle the expanse of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Our Tech City

Port Elizabeth forms the centre of Nelson Mandela Bay along with Uitenhage and Despatch, two small towns on the perimeter of the Nelson Mandela Metro. There is something special about this bay. There has to be, as it was the only metro allowed to be named after former president Nelson Mandela. His “spirit of freedom” is captured in the people of the Bay, as well as their surroundings. It is also home to our prestigious university as well as being an up an coming industrial technology hub. Volkswagen calls PE home, Johnson Controls is another. Global industry leaders in innovative products like  Webbing Products and Aspen Pharma Care also draw on the City and Nelson Mandela University for inspiration and talented employees.

Life On The Bay

With 40 kilometres of beaches offering endless fun in the sun to visitors, it is no surprise that Port Elizabeth is also known as the “Watersport Capital of Africa”. Along with catching a wave, gliding across the ocean in a speed boat or holding on for dear life while being pulled by a speed boat, the options are endless.

The Windy City

Some sort of wind, be it a breeze or gale force, is always blowing in Nelson Mandela Bay. But numerous days of sunshine soon banishes the windy day from one’s mind. The weather is ideal for having fun in the sun all year round as the summers are warm, the winters mild and rainfall sporadic.

The Wild Side Of The Bay

Game parks such as the Seaview Lion Park and the Kragga Kamma Game Park are within the boundaries of the metro. Here wildlife such as lions, cheetahs, giraffes and springboks can be viewed. Another beacon that stands proud in the heart of Port Elizabeth is the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. First used during the 2010 Soccer World Cup, it has now become a regular host to various sporting events.

Nelson Mandela Bay – Discover Freedom

Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage, Despatch and Colchester) has got everything a visitor expects to find on a South African trip. We are the only city that boasts the Big 7 (Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Humpback Whale and Great White Shark). Port Elizabeth (The Friendly City) is known for its over 40Km coast that boast a multitude of Blue Flag Beaches and hours of sunshine to enjoy them in.

“Studying at Nelson Mandela University has been the greatest adventure of my life. The diverse environment has prepared me to challenge anything that may come my way, be it work or in a social setting. The Eastern Cape as an automotive hub has opened a door of opportunity and experience for me. I love this city, and would stay here forever if I could.”
